In most countries a roof is one trade. In Australia it is at least two, and they sit on the same scaffold. The tiles and slates are one job; the flashings, gutters, downpipes and roof drainage are roof plumbing, and that is licensed work with a licensed person's name on it.

So the crew list for a single re-roof already crosses a licensing boundary, and the office has to know where that boundary runs before the quote goes out rather than after.

Three licences, one job file

That is where licences, insurances and inductions belong. The pitched area is a calculation, not a number

The area you bill is never the area on the plan: pitch, hips, valleys, laps and the tile gauge all sit between the footprint and the quantity.

Zirko keeps that calculation in the line item instead of the result. A chain such as 100+(5.1*4)/2 stays in the measurement row, up to five hundred rows are summed to three decimal places, and the chain written into the site report on the phone moves unchanged into the invoice line with a marker saying which report it came from. What the browser works out while you type, the server works out again when it saves.

A wet week is a record, not a hole

Twelve time types sit behind the hours, and bad weather is one of them, next to working hours, travel time, leave, sickness and short time. Each has its own effect on target hours and the leave account, so a blown-out week can be shown rather than argued about.

The planning board runs from one week to half a year and already carries leave, sickness and the public holidays of your operating country. Drag a job onto a team row and it makes one assignment per person; book someone twice and it says so. What it does not do is optimise routes, forecast capacity or put sites on a map.

When you are the subbie, the money runs on a statute

Roofers work for builders, and on a builder's job payment is not a matter of goodwill. In New South Wales the supporting statement, the split between fifteen and twenty days and the ten days that follow decide the outcome — the supporting statement, the 15/20 day split, and the ten days that decide the job.
